Q & A with Filmmaker Leslie Iwerks via Skype after Film Viewing!
Filmmaker, Leslie Iwerks. Narrated by Daryl Hannah
Academy Award® and Emmy® Award-nominated filmmaker Leslie Iwerks has done it
again! Following up on her 2009 and 2010 documentaries "Dirty Oil" and "Downstream,"
which investigated the health and environmental impacts of the Alberta oil sands, and her
2007 "Recycled Life," a film about Central America's largest garbage dump in Guatemala
City and the people who live and work there, Ms. Iwerks has recently released "Pipe
Dreams," a 40-minute documentary about the controversial Keystone XL pipeline.
Previewed in January to audiences in New York, California, Nebraska, and circulated
widely to members of the U.S. Congress, the House of Representatives, and the White
House, this recently Oscar® short-listed film has received rave reviews: "Riveting! A
compelling film that chronicles a David & Goliath story involving governments, politics
and huge corporate interests" (Leonard Maltin). From Hardisty, Alberta to the Texas Gulf
Coast, the controversial Keystone XL pipeline is poised to cross the largest freshwater
resource in the U.S., the Ogallala Aquifer, threatening irreversible damage to human
health, land and water.
